Vince Sunico develops Telepathic powers with the final concept sketch of Nab!
I was just mentioning how creatively in tune we are with our artist for the QWIXOTIC Webcomic, Vince Sunico, in a post 2 weeks ago. In that post I also mentioned that a few things still needed to be redesigned for Nab, one of the main leads of QWIXOTIC. Weird enough, while writing that post, Vince gives us yet another sketch of Nab, with all the changes that we never mentioned to him.
The beginnings of Telepathic powers? Can Vince predict the future? Let’s ponder all this while looking at the latest sketch of Nab from the QWIXOTIC Webcomic by Vince Sunico of Spent Pencils.
This sketch is perfect, as it’s very superficial changes like I mentioned in that last post. The clothing’s been changed to reflect the desolate times that QWIXOTIC is set in. It’s simpler, more in keeping with Nab’s personality and character.
This will most likely be the final concept sketch of Nab, until he gets his own issue, where we’ll see some fully colorized and action shots of him from the issue itself. Till then you’ll have to appease yourself with these concept sketches.
Stay tuned next week for the first concept sketches of Guru! Yea, that’s right, QWIXOTIC’s own Sikh Yoda. Well kinda…

Vince Sunico’s revised sketch of Nab from QWIXOTIC!
Why is it that it takes a while for some people to understand what other people are imagining? I mean, you’d think with technology these days, you could just imagine something and a computerized projection would show up on the MacBook. Come on Apple, you can do it!
The road to giving life to our creations in visual form from our QWIXOTIC Webcomic has been a relatively easygoing one. One of the main reasons for this is our artist, Vince Sunico from Spent Pencils.
It’s been creepily uncanny how Vince is able to take Gui’s and mine thoughts and perfectly reflect them through his pencils. There have even been times where Gui and I have discussed something completely on our own, during our usual random rants of… well, everything! And we completely forget to mention to Vince any of those nuances months later. However, when he comes back with a sketch of something… it’s BANG ON! I mean somehow he even added the thing that he couldn’t possibly have known we were thinking about. Unless he’s stalking us. 😐
The phrase ‘great minds, think alike’ really applies with our partnership with Vince. However, all that being said, there are still times when tweaks have to be made to the artwork. If sharing thoughts always worked out perfectly, then we’d all be psychically linked and the relationship between Writer and Artist in any comic project would be AWESOME. Sure, there’d be no such thing as privacy in the world anymore, but I think that’s a small sacrifice considering how much time it’d save during brainstorming sessions!
Couple of weeks ago I showed you all a first sketch of Nab that Vince did for us. It was great, but didn’t suit the character profile that we have for Nab. So in keeping with that, here is Vince’s revised sketch of the innocent boy of QWIXOTIC, Nab!
This suits Nab’s image a lot better. He’s an idealistic boy, who’s growing up in a world of pure anarchy and experiences the brutality first hand. There might be a few more superficial tweaks to his look, mostly clothing, by the time you guys get to see him in his debut Issue. Oh yea, Nab’s got an issue all to his own!
Also, you might be wondering… ‘issues, in a webcomic?!’ That’s right!! We got ’em. How?! Well you’ll have to wait until QWIXOTIC officially launches in 2012!
Feel free to compare this revised sketch of Nab against the original sketch and let me know your thoughts. Which you like better and so on. Go on. I wanna hear from you. Just starting typin…
Till next week…

GURU – Character Profile
The QWIXOTIC Webcomic exists in a world of economic breakdowns, social strife and chaos, political pretense and control. A world where the majority of people are trying to survive. They are trying to do anything and everything they can to stay out of the way of higher powers battling for control, feed themselves and stay safe. There are some however, who have taken up arms for a just cause, like Humayra. Some who are fighting to change the way the world is, on a grander scale, like The 8 1/2.
However there are some, who have just left the world behind and found a little corner to make their own peaceful home. There are some, like the Guru.
Guru is a man with principles. He was an idealistic man who lived by the warrior code of Sikhism. Like many in the world of QWIXOTIC, he suffered a great loss. He severed all ties to the world, wanted nothing to do with the affairs of society and placed himself in exile. However, one link remains. Guru trained Humayra in the martial arts of his culture. He taught her how to fight, and reluctantly, passed on his own ideals to her existing high morals.
Now she seeks his advise during a time of crisis. And Guru has to choose. A time is coming when he will have to decide if his principles allow him to sit idly by and do nothing as a group of young and honorable girls go fight for a cause that affects them all? Or will he disgrace the memory of a loved one by breaking a promise to never again shed blood?
The time is now. And we will see the reawakening of a long dormant man, who has more to pass on to the young characters of QWIXOTIC, than anyone else.

Visual morsels of Baklava…
Another week, another QWIXOTIC Webcomic update. But this week isn’t a hum drum text heavy update. Today’s update is like a visual tasting of Baklava. The metaphor is appropriate considering I’m talking about our first ever sketch of Nab from QWIXOTIC!! (He’s European, so is Baklava… you see what I did– never mind.)
This first sketch has been done, like always by Vince Sunico of the Spent Pencils Crew. It is a concept, so keep in mind it may (if not already *wink*) change.
This Nab is great. He’s got the air and facial expression of exactly what we wanted. A young guy who’s playful, innocent almost and very normal… compared to our fucked up world of anarchy and… fucked up-ness. (The scripts are a LOT better than that… I swear, and a lot!)
However, this Nab is older than we preferred. He’s supposed to be 17, and this sketch makes him look more exprienced and older than he should be.
As always, everything is a work in progress, and this has to be slightly modified as well.
Stay tuned next week for the revised sketch of Nab from the QWIXOTIC Webcomic. (I’m starting to feel like the guy at the end of Adam West‘s BATMAN.)

The personification of class into badass…
So a few weeks ago, before the hoopla that was FanExpo’11, I started showing you guys sketches of characters from our upcoming webcomic QWIXOTIC.
I started off with a new sketch of Humayra, our resident Muslim warrior girl, who fights for the cause and for The 8 1/2, all the while struggling with her own beliefs and principles.
The first sketch showed us a very subdued and shrouded ‘Myra. That sketch is essentially ‘Myra when she’s not kicking ass. Her normal everyday, civilian look… well maybe a little less combative and intense.
Well now I give you a second sketch of Humayra from the QWIXOTIC Webcomic Series, created by the moi and my partner (for writing only) Guillermo Girolmini… with art by Vince Sunico of Spent Pencils.
This sketch gives us a better idea of who Humayra is. She’s elegant, beautiful, respectable, dignified and best of all… she’s a powerful woman with strong ideals, who doesn’t hesistate to take matters into her own hands if needed.
This sketch says it all about Humayra. And there’s more to come.
Stay tuned next week for more upcoming Character Sketches from QWIXOTIC along with more news.
Peace out!

Inside FanExpo’11… a QWIXOTIC short.
Minutes into my sweaty enhance, FanExpo welcomed me with a black rubber stamp and a program guide…I leafed through it I rapidly, even with the floor plan map inside, I buzzed around rapidly in my own disorientation.
Instead of frantically trying to find the Spent Pencils booth, I decided to let the sweat dry and sweep the place slowly, taking it all in.
In retrospect it was the best plan. I had just spent an hour in a loading dock tunnel that took us(me and the sea of heads) from the street, down two levels…all the while growing hotter. The concrete spiral finally opened up into a massive rectangular load bay.
Ahead I could see the wickets on display, tickets underway…
Back inside after the clean sweep of the place, I focused on artist alley and started to snap shots of things in the awesome category…that began with the life size model of Abin Sur‘s dead body (Green Lantern) inside a containment pod (geek-o-meeter flashing)…awesome at DEF CON 1! Lol.
My top two hats off to the DC Comic Universe and Hasbro for rocking us with their displays. The George Lucas Element was heavily present and yet…still no sign of George Lucas himself…Stan is coming to Montreal in two weeks George…you could at least try…
Glad to see other Canadians of the famous sort making themselves available. William Shatner and Trish Stratus most notably, they have the right idea.
My greatest moment at 2011 FanExpo Canada came to pass at both A140-p in a flash, on Friday, day two of the exposition.
Our artist Vince Sunico was at the Spent Pencils Booth (A140-p) with his colleagues when one of the fans grabs our QWIXOTIC group shot poster, turns to Vince and says “when does the movie come out!”
If a single poster can render such an emotional response…what could a webcomic do?
…What could a graphic novel do?
…You might be thinking “way to jump the gun”… Or maybe The Shah and I have stumbled upon a way to get through to the masses…QWIXOTIC for the masses.
Most notably in the highlights: original Bob Kane (Batman creator for the Batman challenged) ink illustration of Bats and Robin selling for $5,500.00! A bazooka wielding Jesus, a 15 foot tall Lego reproduction of the Hogwarts grounds keeper Hagrid (for the Harry Potter Challenged).
Awesome-ness on the Geek-O-meter.
The plan was to share pics of myself posing William Shatner, Marina Sertis (Troi from Star Trek TNG), Lance Henrikson (Aliens) and Eliza Dushku (Doll House/Buffy)…but alas, each foto op was $40 and not in the budget.
This was my first major comic festival which hosted fans to the tune of 70,000 over the course of 4 days. I can only imagine the madness of something bigger like San Diego ComiCon…The Shah and I are currently planning the possibility of QWIXOTIC making an appearance along with artist Vince Sunico for 2012…it’s still a work in progress.
Armed only with my Blackberry camera I managed to get a few pics for you just in case my thousand words are not enough. Lol.
So there it is…just another peek into the QWIXOTIC camp and into our UNIVERSE.
QWIXOTIC for the masses.

QWIXOTIC… posterized!
After a busy couple of weeks at the QWIXOTIC think tank, our trio of likely comic creators have officially launched the marketing campaign for the Webcomic Series at the FanExpo’11 that went down last weekend. It was a pretty successful event, as it always is, and QWIXOTIC’s presence with Vince Sunico at the Spent Pencil’s booth went down pretty well as well.
QWIXOTIC’s presence was known by two posters that give a promo at the Webcomic Series with it’s major cast. There will be some more upcoming cons and events that Vince Sunico will be attending, where fans will be able to get any remaining QWIXOTIC posters signed by Sunico himself.
In the meantime, for all you lazy asses and geographically challenged folk that were unable to make it to FanExpo’11, I’ve got a surprise for you. What? Don’t like surprises. Well suck it up just scroll down. You won’t be disappointed.
The first poster is obviously of the star of our show, Qwynn. It’s awesome work by Vince Sunico, taking a shot from one of the issues of QWIXOTIC and turning it into a cover poster for the series.
I give you, for the first time ever, the main cast of the QWIXOTIC Webcomic Series. We’ve got Qwynn, ‘Myra, Guru and a mysteriously creepy silhouette of someone. *cue ominious piano music*
This is for everyone that couldn’t make it out to FanExpo to pick up one of these babies for real. Stay tuned in the new coming weeks, for more artwork, details and character sketches from QWIXOTIC!
QWIXOTICANS… ho!!

QWIXOTIC @ FanExpo 2011!!
It was basically 4 years ago that a random conversation mocking the future of fast food joins led to a mind bending mental roadtrip that ended with us coming up with the QWIXOTIC Universe, and deciding to portray it in a Webcomic. 4 years…
More recently, I’ve been promising a lot of progress updates, and artwork to be on the Blog , and all that is still to come. (I don’t lie or tease… much) However this week is a mucho special time for us at QWIXOTIC (the three of us).
August 25th, 2011 will mark the most official start of the QWIXOTIC Wecomic since its inception. The marketing campaign for The QWIXOTIC Webcomic is being launched at the FanExpo 2011 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from August 25th to August 28th, 2011.
If you’re in the area, (or even if you’re not… do a road trip with friends!) then head on over to the FanExpo to pick up a free poster of the QWIXOTIC Webcomic, signed by its creators.
Check out the Spent Pencils booth and meet our very own QWIXOTIC artist, Vince Sunico! He’ll be there with his most talented crew. You may even get some sketches done by him!
Also for the first time ever, Gui Girolmini, the co-creator and co-writer of the QWIXOTIC Webcomic series will also be in attendance along with Vince. Be one of the FIRST ever, to get a free poster of the upcoming QWIXOTIC Webcomic Series signed by Vince Sunico and Gui Girolmini!!
Unfortunately, I won’t be there. I know, I’m pretty broken up about it as well. Wild Unicorns shooting rainbows wouldn’t have kept me away, however I am majorly geographically challenged, being in South Asia at the moment. Otherwise I’m fully there in spirit… but not in the creepy GHOSTBUSTERS kinda way. More like GHOST, without the sexual bits.
All the info is posted below. The event is 4 days long. And it’s the first opportunity for everyone to get a look at some official artwork and posters of QWIXOTIC. Not to mention own a signed copy of it. This is only limited to FanExpo so go get your poster while you can. DO IT NOW!
Fan Expo 2011

When: August 25th to August 28th 2011.
Hope to see you there (from the pictures) and have an awesome time, especially on my behalf!! ‘Till next week QWIXOTICANS!

‘Myra gettin’ her brood on…
It’s been a while since we’ve had some character sketches up on this Blog. Those seem to be what gets everyone riled up and screamy. So I’ve decided, being the decider that I am, that for the next few weeks we’ll be putting up some character concept sketches of the cast from the upcoming QWIXOTIC Webcomic Series.
I’d like to take this time to clarify something. When I upload the artwork for our Webcomic onto Facebook and what not, people seem to applaud and are very impressed by my art skills. I’d like to thank those people. Your words mean a lot to me. Especially considering my art skills don’t go beyond the etching of my name in various fonts and honing my mustache grafitti on the various newsprints I find laying about the house.
All the artwork for the QWIXOTIC Webcomic Series has been done by Vince Sunico of Spent Pencils. Everything from the concepts, issues, character design, logo, posters, etc… are all Vince. Vince brings our written words to life in image form. But still, thanks for all the kind, kind words.
Now you all know Humayra, our very own Muslim warrior chick, who is one of the leading ladies of QWIXOTIC. It’s been a few months since you all read about her, and years since Gui and I conceptualized the character. Now, we, by which I obviously mean you, get to finally glimpse her in all her glory.
This image is a very tense and combative Humayra, than her character will be. She’s basically getting her brood on in this one. Vince, once again took our direction and designed this first sketch and it’s just awesome. For a first sketch, we have no complaints. What do you all think? Too much? Too little? Let us know!
There is one more sketch of Humayra, that properly captures her essence and who she is at the core. More on that next week. Till then, feel free to leave us your comments, love, hate, or recipes for wicked apple pie in the comments below.

Three men and a logo…
After months of running around, concepts, even attempts at a logo (let’s not even discuss that whole scenario) we’ve finally got our own. *does a little Chandler dance*
Created by Vince Sunico of Spent Pencils, with design input from myself naturally, and my co creator/writer Gui… here is the finished and official logo for the QWIXOTIC Webcomic Series.
We’ve finally been able to brand the QWIXOTIC Series with its own unique and individual image. This is what you all will see in the next coming weeks during the marketing of QWIXOTIC launch. The logo itself has a deeper connection to the story, it reveals a lot about the lead character, Qwynn, and also some heavy tid bits on where the story is going. — I’ve said too much.
Check out the logo and let me know your thoughts, comments… or even what you’ve had for dinner, if you truly wish. Go nuts… in the comment section below I mean.
